Black Dice are probably the only band of the noise-pop scene that actually deserve both there qualificative of noise and of pop ! Its heavy and its light, its happy but its rough, and most of all they have a wicked amount of weird sounds.

[1.] What did you do in 2008 that you have never done before? Moved in a big cultural center.
[2.] Did you keep all of last years resolutions? Cant remember if i had any. Probably none, as i was spaced out for a few days lol.
[3.] Have you any resolutions for next year? A bit like every year : more faith in myself and more self-discipline ! More concretely i want to get on with being physically fit and eventually sporty.
[4.] What countries did you visit? France, Latvia, Switzerland (and norway for about 2 hours)
[5.] What would you like to have in 2009 that you didn't have in 2008? more time to do extra-scolar activities (drawing, music, etc)
[6.] What date in 2008 will remain etched in your memory? I was about to say Ruta's arrival but i cant actually remember the date lol. None i guess, im very bad with dates.
[7.] What was your biggest achievement of the year? Mhhh... relationship ? Or maybe getting a place in Richmond ?
[8.] What was your biggest failure? my grades from last year.I still dont know how much was my fault and how much was just the teacher being a dick. In doubt i consider it was my fault.
[9.] Did you suffer any illness or injury? few days of cold and other inconsequent illnesses.
[10.] What was the best thing you bought? Thats a fucking hard question... My pair of Supras ? The ipod touch that i baught for Ruta's bday but will keep for myself ? lol. Most probably my sewing machine.
[11.] Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed? Predictably, my girlfriend's one. But then again isnt it what your girlfriend is supposed to do ??
[12.] Where did most of your money go? Fuck me, if i knew...
[13.] What did you get really really really excited about? Richmond, going to France, shagging Ruta.
[14.] What songs will always remind you of 2008? Hatebreed, any song from the Rise of Brutality album
[15.] Compared to this time last year are you : [A] Fatter or thinner? maybe a bit fatter due to spending christmas eating soviet party meals instead of last years ketamine diet [B] Happier or sadder? cant really say, i have no such feelings at the moment and no recollection of having them last year... [C] Richer or poorer? Prolly richer as i dont rent any longer
[17.] What do you wish you'd done less of? I could have done a bit less partying in the first half of the year. I am glad i got rid of the need for going out every weekend.
[18.] How will you be spending Christmas? I spent it in Ruta's family in Latvia, eating strange local xmas food and getting exciting pressies. Not really.
[19.] Which LiveJournal users did you meet for the first time? I dont think i met anyone on lj for very very longtime...
[20.] Did you fall in love in 2008? i guess so
[21.] How many one night stands? none, you know i am not this kind of guy...
[22] What was your favourite TV show? Jeremy Kyle ?
[23.] Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year? Hate is as astrange to me as love is, so i thought i might start hating her, but no, it just faded away very quickly
[24.] What was/were the best books you read? Storm and Steel, Ernst Junger
[25.] What was your greatest musical discovery? pfeee, so much of it. Pain Killer (another Zorn project), Oliver Messaien (contemporary with electro like arangements), Metalcore (Hatebreed for exemple)
[26.] What did you want and get? A good placement
[27.] What did you want and not get? Romance ? Not sure i really wanted it since i am the only one to blame not to get it
[28.] What was your favourite film this year? I saw so many and i am not the top five type of guy... I just watched the last Woody Allen which i liked very much.
[29.] What did you do on your birthday and how old were you? Turned 23 and spent it at home wiv sum friends and some drinks. Didnt went out and did some work later on.
[30.] What one thing would have made your year more satisfying? I am quite satisfied really. Maybe being more involved in autogestion ?
[31.] How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008? Grey and black, touches of faded colours, luxury casual and military feel.
[32.] What kept you sane? Me + Myself
[33.] Which celebrity did you fancy the most? Wtf ? Umberto Ecco ?
[34.] Which political issue stirred you the most? Cant saya any such issue stirred me but well as usual i am interested in terrorism and other meeting points of traditional and post modern societies...
[35.] Who did you miss? Annike, Rodrigo, Olivia, Gemma
so thats 2008.
what i want 2009 to bring: Good chances to get a job at Richmond, a well paid weekend job, new experiences on various levels, a solution to the gf problem, good grades at school (bad start) and more intellectually challenging friends.
predicted fashion style for 2009: Hopefully a more tailored style if i can afford it, that will be completed with a comeback to alternative hairstyle. I am afraid tho that a tailored wardrobe might take me a few years to afford...

'Troublemaker' by Stefano Unterthiner, winner in the Animal Portraits category, 'Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2008'
No link at all (i swear it is a fortuitous coincidence) but those of you who heard of the recent trend of african/maghrebin electro world might want to hear my selection on the matter :
http://www.last.fm/music/Amadou%2B%2526%2BMariam is called afro blues, but the influences are much more varied. + I love Mali and dogon culture (one of the most advanced form of tribal religions) http://www.last.fm/music/U-cef Imagine acid dub meet soufism with a rap ish singing, but with a ritual feel. Really innovative in many ways
We went a long way since Afrikaa Bambaata lol

" This realistic image, however, does not catch at all what really is, but what should not be - death and misery - what should not exist, from our moral and humanistic point of view. And at the same time making an aesthetic and commercial, perfectly immoral use and abuse of this misery. Images that actually testify, behind their pretended "objectivity", of a deep denial of the real, and of an equal denial of the image - assigned to present what does not even want to be represented, assigned to the rape of the real by burglary. " Jean Baudrillard, The Violence of the Image
I am quite glad i did spent some time researching this particular school project. Even tho i didnt had the time to do much more than read a few chapters of the many books i sourced, mainly in order to pick witty quotes, i found a lot of people putting in words some of my thought much better than i would. This particular quote about realistic image is what the grief i always kept against the aesthetics of both HxC and Power Electronics movements ! But he, no matter how fictional it is it still give you this rush of being close to the unspeakable reality, or at least the rush to strive for it. I guess that this is the very essence of this form of political provocation.

Thanks to having internet at home i finally can start listening to some new music (i really had exhausted the electro-pop folder of Ruta lol) ; And thanks to last.fm i discovered a lot of new and newish bands and artists that i really enjoy :
Glenn Branca is one of those artists who started out in the no wave noise scene and grew into contemporary "classical" and experimental music : his concerto for hundred electric guitars is quite something and i really hope to see him live one of those days...
